Nairobi - At least 10 girls were raped after a gang of men attacked hundreds of students who were demonstrating against school administration in Kenya, said police on Tuesday.
Jaspher Ombati of police said authorities were probing the incident, which took place on Sunday after about 700 students of Kangubiri High School in Nyeri, about 100km north of Nairobi, protested outside the school compound against the administration.
Ombati said: "The incident happened when students, who were protesting at night, were attacked. Officers are on the ground investigating the case."
But, police officials confirmed that at least 10 girls had been raped early Sunday in Muthinga trading post, which was near their school.
Officials said that the students were protesting against the poor administration at the school, including highhandedness and poor meals.
