Abidjan - Three soldiers were killed in an attack early on Monday on a major military base to the west of Ivory Coast's economic capital, which was repulsed by the government forces, said the Ivorian army.
The army said 10 of the attackers, who had not been identified, also died in the battle at the Akouedo camp in the West African country, which had been divided into two for more than three years between the government and former rebels.
General Philippe Mangou said: "The situation is under control, our forces are in the process of securing the new camp and the old camp."
About 10 bodies were dressed in civilian clothes, at the base amid intensive military activity taking place in the aftermath of the fighting. Soldiers said the dead were among the assailants.
