Johannesburg - About 15 people were feared dead after a ferry capsized on the Zambezi River near a point where Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe come close together, SABC radio news reported on Thursday.
It said the victims were apparently crossing from Zambia to Botswana at Kazungulu. More people were feared to have drowned in the crocodile and hippo-infested river.
The Botswana Defence Force Air Wing has embarked on an intensive search operation.
Plans to construct a multimillion rand bridge at Kazangulu were approved only a month ago, following years of protracted talks between Botswana and Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe objected to Botswana constructing the bridge, on the grounds that the Zambezi forms a boundary between Zimbabwe and Zambia, rather than either country with Botswana.
