2 Germans, pilots killed in Kenya crash

Nairobi -Two German tourists and two pilots were killed when their aircraft crashed on Wednesday in Kenya's renowned Masai Mara national park, with at least three other tourists badly injured, police said.

"Four people died on the spot, while three others were seriously wounded," said local police chief Peterson Maelo. A total of five Germans, four Americans and two Czechs were reported on board the aircraft. The pilots' nationalities were not known.

The Standard of Kenya reports that the aircraft crashed while taking off at Ngeredi airstrip within the Masai Mara Game Reserve.

The manager of the airstrip Daniel Chivai said the plane was from Mombasa and had dropped passengers.

He said the accident was caused by what he termed as "wrong wind direction" and that the casualties were being treated by Flying Doctors from Nairobi.
