Nairobi - Two Kenyan opposition supporters died, one shot and the other run over by a lorry, when police chased a group of people alleged to have been harrassing members of the public in Nairobi, police said on Thursday.
It was not immediately clear who shot the man on Wednesday when police chased two lorries carrying supporters of the opposition National Rainbow Coalition (NARC), police spokesperson King'ori Mwangi said.
Mwangi said police fired in the air and aimed a shot at one of the lorry's tyres in an attempt to stop it as the driver fled in Nairobi's Westlands constituency, an opposition stronghold.
"Police were called when members of the public complained that people riding in the two lorries were harrassing them," according to Mwangi.
The second victim fell from the lorry and was ran over by the same vehicle, he added.
Political parties have stepped up street campaigning ahead of presidential, parliamentary and local council elections on Friday.
Vehicles belonging to various candidates are driving around the city with loud speakers urging people to vote for them.
Mwangi said clubs, iron bars and stones were recovered from one of the lorries, which was impounded by the police, and that four people were arrested. - Sapa-AFP
