Nairobi - A bus plunged into a river east of
the Kenyan capital overnight, killing at least 23 people, police said on Sunday.
Fifteen people were rushed to hospitals with
various injuries.
"The driver lost control of the bus
which flipped over several times before plunging into the river," said
district police chief David Kirui. "It was very difficult to save the
people and remove the bodies from the bus."
Among the dead were 11 men, 11 women and a
child.
The accident, the worst in the east African
country this year, happened at Mbooni in the country's southeast. The
passengers were on their way to wedding preparations.
