4 Nigerian students 'horrendously' killed

2012-10-08 07:37

Lagos - A mob in Nigeria lynched four male students at the University of Port Harcourt in the southern Rivers State after accusing them of stealing phones and laptops, state police and media said on Sunday.

"On Friday, a mob from Aluu community in Port Harcourt committed a horrendous crime of taking the laws into their hand by lynching four male students of the University of Port Harcourt," police spokesperson Ben Ugwuegbulem said.

Aluu is the nearest community to the university, established in 1975.

Media reports said the students were accused of stealing laptops and BlackBerry phones.

"The police have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators of this barbaric, reprehensible and unlawful act. We shall not condone this illegality," Ugwuegbulem said, calling the killings "murder".

The suspects and a video are helping police in their investigation, Ugwuegbulem said, calling it "curious, amazing and insensitive" that witnesses who could have prevented the crime were filming it.

We should do the same here. Almost every week I read about foreigners (mostly Nigerians) involved in drug related crimes and murders in my country. Now I know why they don't fear our laws and do as they please here. They are getting killed in their homeland for committing crimes whilst we South Africans allows the criminals to live in luxury here by making our sisters prostitutes.

the people are becoming g@tvol for this human rights business where the criminal always wins

Louis - You are 100% correct. When violent crimes are committed, the perpetrators should lose any rights they have. Rights are for law abiding citizens, not for criminals.
