5 burnt as car catches alight

2009-06-29 09:04
Polokwane - Five people were badly burnt after the car they were travelling in burst into flames during a collision on Sunday, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Nick Dollman said the accident occurred on the N1 highway 40km outside of Polokwane.

"It appeared that only one car was involved in the incident and that it overturned before bursting into flames.

"An adult male had sustained severe burns over more than 90% of his body and a young boy (approximately six years old) had sustained over 80% burns and was subsequently airlifted to hospital. Both were in a critical condition.

"The alleged male driver sustained approximately 60% burns while a female sustained 30% burns, while the fifth occupant, an adult male, was extremely fortunate to escape with relatively minor burns," Dollman said.

They were taken to hospital by ambulance.
