5 hurt in 2 Durban accidents

Durban - Five people were injured in two separate accidents around Durban, paramedics said on Saturday.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said in the first incident on Friday night at 22:00, a woman in her thirties was seriously injured after she fell off the back of a moving bakkie.

The bakkie had been travelling on Berea Road.

"When paramedics arrived on scene she was lying on the road and had sustained critical injuries.

"Paramedics placed her on a ventilator and after stabilising her, she was taken to Addington hospital for further treatment," said Botha.

Just over an hour later on the intersection of DLI and Dartnell roads, paramedics had to use the jaws of life to free a man from the wreckage of a Toyota Tazz he was driving.

"A Toyota Tazz was hit in the side by another vehicle. The driver was in a critical condition.

"He was stabilised and placed on a ventilator before being transported to St Augustine's hospital for further treatment," said Botha.

Two passengers from the Tazz and the driver from the other vehicle had also all sustained serious injuries and were transported to various hospitals in the Durban area for further treatment.
