Nairobi - A shootout in a hotel and casino parking lot on Monday killed five people, including two local workers who were "caught up in the crossfire", said police and witnesses on Monday.
The shootout happened in a parking lot used by the Holiday Inn hotel and the Mayfair Casino next door. Bullet casings and blood were still there hours after the shooting on Monday morning.
Police were chasing suspects who were trying to rob the casino, said Charles Owino, deputy spokesperson for the Kenyan police. He said two of the dead worked at the Holiday Inn, but a witness, John Wanyonyi, said the two worked at the casino.
Owino said the employees were "caught up in the crossfire". A man who answered the phone at the Holiday Inn would not comment.
The shootout happened in the residential Westlands area of Nairobi.
