Abuja - African Union leaders decided Sunday to extend for another year the term of Nigeria's President Olusegun Obasanjo as chairman of the 53-member body, sources said.
Meeting behind closed doors at a summit in the Nigerian capital Abuja, African Union leaders also decided to hold their next summit in July in Libya and then in Sudan in January 2006, which will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of its independence.
The January summits are to then be held in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, when the chairman is also to be selected for one-year terms.
