Aircraft bomb key Somali town
Mogadishu - Residents in a southern Somali town say planes have bombed bases belonging to al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab militants and at least one person was killed.
Bardhere town elder Abdi Aden says he heard the sound of planes and then explosions on Thursday. He saw one dead man and three wounded ones being transported in a minivan.
Eyewitness Mohamed Hussein says he saw one plane bombing a checkpoint and al-Shabaab fighters there firing at it.
The agricultural town is 400km west of the Somali capital and the site of one of three key bridges over the Juba River.
It was unclear who the planes belonged to, but Kenya has launched several bombing raids in Somalia since sending troops across the border in mid-October.
