Algiers - A bomb struck a military convoy in Algeria, killing five soldiers and injuring five others, local reports said on Saturday.
The explosion took place early on Friday around 350km east of Algiers on a highway linking Jijel to Constantine, the El-Watan and Liberte dailies reported.
The bomb, apparently set off remotely, hit the last vehicle in the convoy.
Attacks have surged in recent years in northern Algeria's restive Kabylie region, where Jijel is located.
Although there was no immediate claim of responsibility, attacks have generally been attributed to militant Islamic groups including al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQMI), an offshoot of the international network operating in northwest Africa.
