Algeria opposition front to boycott parly

Algiers - A new Algerian opposition front of 14 small political parties has announced it will boycott the new parliament, calling its election fraudulent.

Algeria's 10 May legislative elections resulted in a crushing win for two pro-government parties, with more than 60% of the seats.

Opposition parties have said the election was rigged.

Lakhdar Ben Khellaf, spokesperson for the small Islamist party the Front for Justice and Democracy, said on Monday the new alliance did not recognise parliament or the government, because of the "shameful fraud".

The new opposition alliance holds 28 seats of the 462-member body.

The largest Islamist party, the Movement of Society for Peace, while not part of this alliance, said over the weekend it would not take part in the new government.
