The approval of the bill sparked criticism from the international community with countries like Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands and Sweden threatening to freeze their aid to the east African country.

"It is a dialogue between the European Union and the Uganda government on the anti-homosexuality Law," Uganda's foreign affairs ministry spokesperson, Fred Opolot was quoted as saying.

The EU is one of the top donors to Uganda, with more than €460m channelled into aid programmes each year, the report said.
