Monrovia - The United Nations children's agency (Unicef) launched a massive campaign in Liberia on Saturday to encourage the country's child soldiers to go back to school.
The campaign will be given a boost by Liberian soccer player George Oppong Weah who is due in Liberia next Tuesday on a four-day mission to promote it.
Internal Affairs Minister Dan Morais who helped launch the campaign lamented that the war had created a generation gap of illiterate people.
He urged children to drop their arms and go to school.
"Your future lies in disarming yourselves. And when we say disarming yourselves, we don't only mean putting down the guns, but also disarming your negative attitudes towards your parents," said Morais.
