Kinshasa - Sudan President Omar Bashir has arrived in Democratic republic of Congo to participate in a regional free trade summit, sparking calls for his arrest on genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity charges related to atrocities committed in his country's Darfur region.

An Associated Press reporter saw Bashir arrive at the airport in Kinshasa on Tuesday evening, where he was greeted by Congolese Prime Minister Augustin Matata Ponyo.

Human Rights Watch and local rights groups urged DRC to arrest Bashir in accordance with its obligations as a member of the International Criminal Court, which first issued an arrest warrant for him in 2009. A second warrant for genocide was issued in 2010.

Since then, some African members of the court have avoided hosting Bashir, but others including Kenya and Nigeria have welcomed him.
