Nairobi - Kenya and Tanzania are marking the 10th anniversary of the deadly bombings of the US embassies in the east African nations.
The co-ordinated attacks on August 7 1998, blamed on al-Qaeda, killed more than 200 people and wounded thousands.
Meanwhile, Kenyan police are conducting a manhunt for an al-Qaeda operative accused of masterminding the attack. He apparently escaped a police raid last week.
Survivors were gathering at the bomb sites on Thursday. The US ambassador to Kenya, Michael Ranneberger, said Kenya and Tanzania were honouring the victims by strengthening their democracies to prevent another attack in the future.
