Cairo - Egyptian police have arrested the Muslim Brotherhood's four-man media team for chamber of commerce elections in the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria.
According to the Muslim Brotherhood, police raided and searched their member's home and confiscated their computers early on Friday.
The Sunday elections have aroused more interest than usual this year, after the Brotherhood emerged as the largest opposition group in parliamentary elections last year.
On Saturday, the Egyptian interior ministry said it had no information about the arrests in Alexandria.
Activists said a separate group of five detainees would start a hunger strike in Torah prison in southern Cairo on Saturday night, in protest at their detention.
The detainees, from the anti-government Kefaya (Enough) Movement, had taken part in protests in solidarity with judges seeking judicial independence from the executive this month.
They include Kamal Khalil, a prominent activist who has led many of the Kefaya protests in the last 18 months.
