Ouagadougou - Opposition leaders and members of civil society are meeting in Burkina Faso to decide the composition of a transitional government and what they expect from its leader.

Opposition protests forced president Blaise Compaore to resign last week after 27 years in power, but the military quickly stepped into the void.

International envoys are now pressing the West African country to quickly designate a civilian leader for a transitional period until new elections can be held.

Talks on Wednesday failed to designate a leader, but diplomats said all sides have agreed that the transition should last one year and elections should be held in November 2015.

On Thursday, the opposition and other prominent leaders are meeting to determine their criteria for a transitional leader.
