New York - US President George W Bush, speaking to a UN summit on Wednesday, called for efforts to make the world body corruption-free and accountable to the international community.
Bush spoke at the opening of the summit a day after the UN general assembly adopted a sweeping, but watered down, blueprint for UN reforms.
"The United Nations must be strong and efficient, free of corruption, and accountable to the people it serves," Bush said.
"The United Nations must stand for integrity and live by the high standards it sets for others.
"And many full institution reforms must include measures to include internal oversight, identify cost savings and ensure that precious resources are used for their intended purpose."
