Calls for sex-for-aid probe

Accra - The Ghana Military High Command on Monday expressed concern about reports of a sex-for-aid scandal among United Nations peacekeepers in Liberia, including its soldiers, and called for an immediate investigation, said reports.
The Ghana Armed Forces said: "The Military High Command is concerned about the report and its ramifications on the international image of Ghana in general and the Ghana Armed Forces in particular as far as UN International Peacekeeping Operations are concerned.
"The Military High Command has subsequently directed the contingent commander of the Ghanaian troops in Liberia to investigate the matter and submit a report to it immediately."
Nibo said that all soldiers on peacekeeping duties were warned about the consequences of such actions and anyone found culpable after the investigations would be dealt with accordingly.
Ghanaian soldiers were said to have fathered children in Liberia with their partners being as young as 17 years old.
