Compaore wins presidential vote

Ouagadougou - Burkina Faso leader Blaise Compaore won a presidential election in his West African state with a massive 80.21% of the vote, according to preliminary results released by authorities on Thursday.

The score means that Compaore, who seized power in a 1987 coup and has gone on to become a key power-broker in the region, is set to be re-elected without facing a run-off.

He was widely tipped for re-election against opponents who lacked funding to campaign across the cotton- and gold-producing country.
