Johannesburg - Police seized ecstasy tablets and cocaine worth about R600 000 after two Nigerian men were arrested on Friday afternoon in Midrand for trying to sell drugs to an undercover policeman.
North Rand police spokesperson Superintendent Eugene Opperman said detectives of the Pretoria organised crime unit arrested the men about 13:00 in what he called a "controlled police action." Opperman said he could not describe the operation further for fear of alerting criminals to police methods.
After the arrest the men were taken to a house they had been
using in Crystal Park near Benoni, where police seized 5 000 ecstasy tablets and 30g of cocaine.
There were also computers in the house with files relating to
the well-known 419 scam.
Opperman said investigations into the scam were continuing, as
were investigations into the arrested men's suspected links to
other drug crimes. He said more arrests could be expected in the
next few weeks.
