East London - A present and former Eastern Cape MEC have appeared in court on charges of corruption, said police on Friday.
Former Eastern Cape agriculture MEC Max Mamase and his wife, local government MEC Neo Moerane-Mamase were released on R20 000 bail each.
Superintendent Mzukisi Fatyela said the couple had been under investigation for about a year before their arrest.
Fatyela said: "We have decided not to oppose bail. This was an agreement reached between us and their legal representative on Thursday."
He added that property magnate Norman Benjamin had briefly appeared in Cape Town magistrate's court on Monday in connection with the same case.
He was also released on bail of R20 000.
