Cyangugu, Rwanda - A dissident officer in the army of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Colonel Jules Mutebusi, fled to Rwanda with just over 300 of his men who were disarmed by Rwandan authorities, a Rwandan army spokesperson told AFP on Tuesday.
"Mutebusi is here, he came last night from Kamanyola with 305 men. They crossed with their arms and were disarmed here," said Colonel Patrick Karegeya, in this border town.
Another officer, Brigade General Caesar Kayizari said the DRC soldiers were now "in a place between 15 and 20km from the border", towards Butare.
The incident comes after Kinshasa government troops and renegade soldiers again clashed near the border between the two countries, sparking fears of new conflict between them.
