Maputo - Construction of a 450km fuel pipeline with a capacity to transport more than 5 million cubic metres of petroleum products to South Africa from Mozambique will start this September, according to a Mozambican media report.
Salvador Namburete, Mozambican Energy minister, was quoted by the daily Noticias as saying the more than US$500m project could be operational by 2011.
He said the pipeline would reduce time taken to transport fuel products from Mozambique's Matola terminal to neighbouring South Africa.
The project, named Petroline, would also reduce cases of theft of petroleum products at the port, he said.
