Egypt MP nose out of joint after 'attack'

Cairo - Egyptian prosecutors have demanded the medical records of an Islamist MP after doctors said injuries he claimed to have sustained during a car-jacking were in fact the result of a nose job, judicial sources told AFP.

Anwar al-Bilkimy had said he was the victim of a car-jacking earlier in the week and spoke of how gunmen beat him and stole $16 500.

But doctors and medical staff at a hospital in the Cairo suburb of Sheikh Zayed have apparently come forward and said that the MP, who belongs to the ultra conservative Islamist party al-Nur, had in fact been undergoing rhinoplasty at the time.

Giza prosecutors "have asked the hospital to provide the medical records... and have asked parliament to allow him to testify," a judicial source said.

Prosecutors have also called for a forensic examination and a police investigation in order to get to the bottom of the story, the source said.
