Egypt 'foils' car bombing near Gaza border

El-Arish - A senior Egyptian intelligence official in
northern Sinai says the military has foiled an attempted car bombing near a
church and a military camp along the Egypt-Gaza border.
The official, who spoke on Monday on condition of anonymity
because he was not authorised to talk to the media, says Egyptian intelligence
received word that militants were preparing a car bomb in a deserted part of
the city of Rafah, which borders Gaza.
The army moved in on the militants late on Sunday. The
official says the gunmen fled, leaving behind one car packed with explosives,
bullet casings, and a rocket-propelled grenade.
Because the car bomb was found near an unused church and a
military camp used by police and border guards, the intelligence official said
either may have been the target.
