Egypt to conduct minor cabinet reshuffle

2012-05-10 08:59

Cairo - Egypt's military rulers are to carry out a minor cabinet reshuffle on Thursday, state television reported.

Two weeks before presidential elections, the ministers of higher education, manpower, culture and parliamentary affairs are to be replaced in the first shake-up under Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri since his government was appointed in December, the broadcaster reported.

No reasons were given for the reshuffle.

The Islamist-dominated parliament suspended its sessions last month for a week to protest the junta's refusal to sack the government, seen as incompetent by lawmakers from the Muslim Brotherhood faction, which holds nearly half of the parliamentary seats.

On 23-24 May, Egypt is to hold its first presidential vote since a popular revolt toppled Hosny Mubarak from power.
