Cairo - Egypt's President Mohammed Morsi, the country's first civilian and Islamist head of state, will visit the United States on 23 September, his spokesperson and state television reported on Wednesday.

"Morsi will visit the United States on 23 September," the state-owned Nile News television said in a news alert.

His spokesperson Yassir Ali said that Morsi will visit the United Nations General Assembly in New York, but a meeting with his US counterpart Barack Obama "is not yet confirmed".
