ElBaradei, Islamists reject talks offer

2011-02-03 12:13

Cairo - Prominent opposition activist Mohamed ElBaradei and the Muslim Brotherhood rejected a call on Thursday by the prime minister for talks saying President Hosni Mubarak must leave office first, they told Reuters on Thursday.

Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq invited opposition groups to talks on Thursday. Al Jazeera and others reported that some groups had agreed, including the liberal, nationalist Wafd party, which is a legal party. The Brotherhood is banned.

"We have refused to meet. Any negotiations are conditional on Hosni Mubarak stepping down and also conditional on security in Tahrir square," ElBaradei told Reuters by telephone.

"We would also like to add that we refuse anything that results from this meeting," said Mohammed al-Beltagi, a former member of parliament from the Brotherhood, adding that his group backed the conditions outlined by ElBaradei.

And it came to pass that the Brotherhood forced Mubarak into exile, took over the parliament and destroyed all the effigies of the past, including the mummies, the Sphinx and the Pyramids.... Long live the mess of the mass.

There are surely underlying reason why we have uprising in Egypt, l doubt if people can take to the street for the sake of it. Running a country is a challenging task.... l think there should be universal presidential term limit, 5 years as head should be it!!! Power is no good and too much power corrupt. President for life and refusing the result of an election to stay in power must be prohibited!!
