Addis Ababa - Ethiopia's new leader, Hailemariam Desalegn, vowed to maintain the plans and progress of the late prime minister Meles Zenawi, in speech given on Sunday during the funeral of the long-time ruler.

"All his initiatives will keep moving forward, all the transformation plans will progress," said Hailemariam, who is expected to be sworn in to the top job from his current role as deputy prime minister in coming days.

He is expected to stay in power until national elections due in 2015.
