Ethiopia PM back as party boss
Addis Ababa - Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi was re-elected as the head of his party following a three-day conference, the state-run Ethiopian news agency (ENA) said on Saturday.
Haile-Mariam Desalegn was elected as deputy leader at the conference held by Zenawi's Ethiopian People's Revolutionary and Democratic Front (EPRDF) in Adama, in central Ethiopia, ENA added.
The conference also chose the 36-member executive committee and 180-member council of the party which maintained absolute control of the country in the controversial May elections with 99% of votes.
The conference was also expected to prepare for a reshuffle of the government following the election. Meles has said he will replace the former leaders of the coup which brought him to power in 1991, by the end of his five-year prime ministerial term.
