Lagos - The home of Nigeria's late first post-independence president, Nnamdi Azikiwe, was burnt in a protest on Monday and three people were killed when police opened fire on protesters, Channels TV said.
Residents in the southern city of Onitsha said supporters of a Biafran separatist leader, Ralph Uwazuruike, ran amuck in the city and burned the former home of Azikiwe, a statesman, author, politician and journalist who was Nigeria's governor-general from 1960 to 1963, and president from 1963 to 1966 when the military staged a coup. He died about 10 years ago.
There was no official confirmation of the reported killings.
