Lagos - A family of 10 has died of suspected food poisoning during a ceremony to mark the completion of their new house in southwest Nigeria, police said on Wednesday.
The bodies of Ayinla Taofeek, his two wives and seven other members of the family were found in the city of Ibadan on Tuesday, two days after holding the mini-party for the new house, police spokesperson Femi Adedeji said.
"Every indication points to food poisoning during the ceremony," he said.
Food the victims ate during the celebration has been taken for medical examination.
The police spokesperson said the family had moved into the three-bedroom apartment last week and held the party on Sunday to celebrate the event.
Neighbours became suspicious on Tuesday because of a strong smell from the house and called in the police.- AFP
