Floods: Houses collapse
Niamey - Dozens of houses collapsed following rare heavy rainfall in the historic northern Niger town of Agadez, the private Radio Anfani reported on Wednesday.
Several districts of the town in northern Niger's desert region were flooded late on Tuesday, also damaging two hospitals and a police station.
An ensuing flood cut off the military barracks from the rest of the town.
The radio station said that one person died because of the rain, although there was no official confirmation.
Heavy rain is extremely rare in the deserts of northern Niger where certain districts hardly experience any rainfall.
