Quebec City - France facilitated the evacuation of Burkina Faso's president in the heat of the west African country's political crisis to neighboring Ivory Coast, French President Francois Hollande said on Tuesday.

"We made sure Compaore was evacuated to Ivory Coast by making available all useful resources," Hollande told a press conference at the end of a three-day visit to Canada.

Compaore was forced to resign in the wake of violent street demonstrations over his 27-year rule, and fled on Friday.

Burkina Faso's military has stepped into a power vacuum left by the ousted strongman's departure.
