Tripoli - Muammar Gaddafi's widow urged a UN investigation into the circumstances of her husband's death after he was captured alive by new regime forces, a pro-Gaddafi TV station reported on Friday.
"We call on the United Nations to investigate the circumstances of the death of mujahid (holy warrior) Muammar Gaddafi," Safia Gaddafi was quoted by Syria-based Arrai television as saying.
Video footage shows he was captured alive by the National Transitional Council's forces in his hometown of Sirte on Thursday. He died from gunshot wounds shortly afterwards in what remain hazy circumstances.
It is still unclear whether he died caught in crossfire, as the NTC claims, or was executed.
"I am proud of the courage of my combatant husband and my sons who confronted the aggression of 40 countries and their agents for six months and who died martyrs," said Safia.
Safia and three of Gaddafi's children - her daughter Aisha and sons Hannibal and Mohammed - fled Libya in August and found shelter in Algeria.
Another son, Saadi, escaped to Niger on September 11.
Three of Gaddafi's children have been killed since a popular revolt erupted in February: Mutassim, who was killed on Thursday in Sirte, Saif al-Arab, struck during a Nato raid in April, and Khamis, who died in combat in August.
Only the fate of Saif al-Islam, the 39-year-old heir apparent, remains unknown, giving rise to conflicting reports. Some suggest he was killed on Thursday; others that he took flight.
