Nairobi - A student of Garissa University where 148 people, mostly students, were killed in an al-Shabaab attack has vowed to not return to the school because she fears for her life.

Patricia Wanjiru Theuri, 23, said she would not try and continue with her teaching course at the university because she was too traumatised.

Theuri narrowly escaped the attack because she had travelled home the day before the attack on April 2.

“When the terrorists attacked our school I was on my way home for holidays. It is hard to believe that some people that I knew very well were killed,” she recounted at her home in Kianganda village, Othaya Nyeri County.

She said she would ask her parents to let her complete her studies at another school in an area where government has proven security.

“The government should help us transfer to other colleges and continue with our studies. It will be hard to study at Garissa College because that incident was horrifying and can lead to psychological torture,” she said.

Theuri is set to complete her course in July this year.
