Lusaka - The Global Fund has resumed support to Zambia with a $100m grant to help the country fight Aids, awarded two years after aid was suspended in a corruption probe, the health ministry said on Thursday.

"After a dry spell of funding... owing to concerns on management of some HIV/Aids programmes, Zambia has successfully secured a $100m grant from the fund," Health Minister Joseph Kasonde said in a statement.

The investigation into $5m that went missing from the health ministry resulted in the sacking of several employees. Henry Kapoko, a human resources manager at the ministry, is standing trial in connection with the scandal.

The case was part of a clean-up by the Global Fund of the management of its programmes around the world.

The latest grant to Zambia will run over three years to help the nation combat HIV, which infects 14% of the adult population.

The Global Fund is Zambia's main donor to the health sector.
