Gunmen kill 2 police officers in Nigeria
Lagos - Authorities say unknown gunmen shot and killed two police officers in Nigeria after a radical Islamist sect engineered a prison break in a neighbouring state.
Niger state police spokesperson Richard Ogunche said the shooting happened on Thursday in Minna, the capital of Niger state, which borders Nigeria's capital Abuja. Ogunche said the gunmen had refused to stop at a police checkpoint and opened fire, also wounding another officer on duty there.
Ogunche said on Friday an investigation into the shooting is ongoing. The shooting happened a day after the radical sect known as Boko Haram orchestrated a prison break in neighbouring Kogi state, freeing 119 inmates.
