Gunmen open fire in Yaounde

Yaounde - Gunmen dressed in military fatigues opened fire on the main bridge in Cameroon's economic capital Douala on Thursday and demanded that President Paul Biya step down, a security official and local media said.

The official said the gunmen, including one holding a banner urging Biya to step down, were dressed in military fatigues.

Cameroon authorities were not immediately available for comment. It was not clear how many gunmen were involved.

Cameroon will hold a presidential election on October 09 and Biya, who has ruled the Central African nation for nearly 30 years, is expected to win after tweaking the constitution to remove presidential term limits in 2008.

A local television broadcaster said security forces had taken control of the Wouri bridge and that the gunmen were on the run.

Douala is not Yaounde, as would be apparent to anyone walking on a bridge in whichever city gunmen did not open fire in. Or the other one too.

Please check your facts right. The incident happened in Douala and not Yaounde as your headline captures.

One only needs to read half a paragraph to see how wrong the headline is. It really seems as though accuracy in headlines is far too much to expect from News24 lately.
