ICC rejects Libya bid to try Gaddafi son

2012-04-26 08:58

The Hague - The International Criminal Court has again rejected attempts by Libya to delay handing over one of former dictator Muammar Gaddafi’s sons, who is wanted for trial.

Judges unanimously dismissed Libya's latest appeal against the court's order to surrender Saif al-Islam Gaddafi for trial on charges of murdering and persecuting civilians in the early days of the uprising that toppled his father's regime last year.

Saif al-Islam was captured by rebels last year and is being held in the western town of Zintan

Libyan authorities are resisting, saying they want to put him on trial at home.

Wednesday's decision heaps more pressure on Tripoli to send Saif al-Islam to The Hague.

That's 'Crap' Gadaffi committed the crimes in Libya.. He should be tried in Libya... As usual the ICC are 'sticking their noses in where they are not wanted!!

Mlucejko, Absolute nonsense !! The ICC was set up, to investigate crimes against humanity, and this is what this thug is accused off. 121 countries are signature to this body, with the exception of China, Russia and the USA In any case this corrupt piece of evil, will get a much more fair trial in The Hague, than he would ever get in Libya, and also be spared his life, as in his home country , he would be shot !!! Ironically, it is his daddy, that destroyed the judiciary in Libya !!! Ac

I agree, try him in Libya. If guilty take him outside and stretch his neck. Where were the ICC when Saddam was caught? They know he is going to walk the plank and are trying to buy browny points.

I agree with you Koos !! The ICC has been in existence for +/- 10/15 years and they have yet to sentence anyone.. They are just a showpiece.. If they were serious about investigating Crimes against humanity, why is Anders Breijvic being tried in his own country..?? If that wasn't a crime against humanity, I don't know what is ??

@Mlucejko, Breivik is being tried in Norway because that country has a functioning judicial system - also he is being tried for murder, not "crimes against humanity" (and yes, I think all evidence so far shows he is a monster). ICC is there to try people when their own countries/systems are "incapable or unwilling" to try them - this is also one reason why the Americans are stupid to exclude themselves - makes me think they don't have much faith in their own system to do the right thing when/if necessary! Further, the biggest pushers for setting up the ICC in the first place were African countries - and some of them are the ones that submitted the charges - they mustn't now turn around & complain if their is a focus on African criminals, since it is their own politicians investigators & courts who have proven "unwilling & incapable" to bring culprits to book.
