Interpol red notice for Gaddafi spy boss

2012-03-18 22:12

Paris - Interpol has issued an alert seeking the arrest and extradition of Muammar Gaddafi's former intelligence chief at Libya's request. Abdullah al-Senoussi was detained on Saturday in Mauritania.

Libyan authorities may have requested the red notice, issued on Sunday, in attempt to ensure they take custody of the man accused of attacking civilians during the uprising against Gaddafi last year and the 1989 bombing of a French airliner. The International Criminal Court and France have also said they want to prosecute al-Senoussi.

Interpol defines a red notice as an alert "to seek the arrest or provisional arrest of wanted persons with a view to extradition." The subjects of red notices are considered to be on the Lyon, France-based organisation's most-wanted list.
