Pretoria - Regions of Lesotho facing food shortages will benefit from food aid extended by Japan to the mountain kingdom, the Japanese embassy in Pretoria said on Thursday.
The aid amounts to Yen 100m (about R6.5m) will also assist schools and clinics.
The money would be used to by 2 344 tons of maize meal, said Takuya Nemoto, a spokesperson for the Japanese embassy.
"The 2 344 tons of maize meal provided will be distributed through the United Nations World Food Programme to the beneficiary communities facing shortages.
"This will also help to alleviate the challenges facing orphans and vulnerable children, including epidemic diseases relating to food shortages," Nemoto said.
The handover ceremony will take place on Friday at the Roma primary school, 25km from Maseru.
