Cape Town – Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has reportedly vowed to bring back the schoolgirls who were abducted by Boko Haram militants on 14 April, saying his government was doing everything possible to secure their release.

Jonathan said this as he met relatives of the schoolgirls for the first time since the girls were seized.

According to BBC Jonathan said his administration aimed not just at rescuing the girls but to also rout Boko Haram Islamists "completely from Nigeria".

He said government was mindful of the girls' safety and wanted to return them all alive to their parents.

Jonathan's visit also came as reports said that almost a dozen parents of the abducted girls have died from stress and attacks.
