Rio De Janeiro - Journalist Edgar Ribeiro Pereira de Oliveira, part-owner of a weekly known for its close scrutiny of business and political leaders in the southern Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul, was shot dead late on Monday, police said.
Oliveira, 43, was shot eight times in Campo Grande by two men who then fled in a car, police said. Investigators found 11 7.65 mm shell casings at the scene.
Oliveira was part-owner of the weekly Boca do Povo, known for its tough reporting on major political and business leaders. Police however said he had not received any death threats.
Several journalists have been killed in Brazil in recent years because of their reporting.
