Nairobi - The media watchdog Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said on Thursday it had learned of a journalist in Eritrea who was jailed in 2006 and seemingly vanished into the prison system.
Tura Kubaba, a journalist with the state-owned Radio Dimtsi Hafash, was arrested in the second half of 2006 and has since disappeared, the Paris-based press watchdog said in a statement.
"This tragedy is all the more shocking for the fact that we have learned about this man's disappearance only two years after the event, because of the wall of terror which the government has built around the country," it said.
The organisation said Kubaba was a member of the Kunama, a minority ethnic group in western Eritrea.
RSF said his imprisonment brought to 16 the number of Eritrean journalists whose detention can be confirmed.
In October 2007, the Horn of Africa country took over from North Korea as the country in the world where press rights are least respected, according to RSF's rankings.
