Kinshasa - President Joseph Kabila has a strong lead against his rival in the run-off presidential election, Jean-Pierre Bemba, according to figures published on Wednesday by the electoral commission with results in from all 169 constituencies.
Kabila took 58% of the votes in the October 29 poll, while Bemba won 42%, according to figures compiled by AFP on the basis of provisional results on the website of the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI), which is the only body entitled to announce the full provisional tally.
The CEI is scheduled to issue the election figures by Sunday after examining complaints from the parties concerned.
Bemba's supporters have alleged that the commission is biased and claim there were "systematic errors" in the vote count.
The commission's website shows a turnout of more than 65% of about 25.4 million registered voters in the central African nation, where the presidential vote culminates an arduous three-year process of introducing democracy in the wake of a devastating regional war.
